Power outages in the Pacific Northwest aren't rare. Wind storms, grid issues, downed lines - it happens, and when it does, you want your home to keep running without you having to do anything. That's exactly what a standby generator gives you. No extension cords, no portable unit to drag out of the garage. It just kicks on automatically.

We just finished up a 10kW Generac Guardian installation for a homeowner in Kirkland. The unit sits on a solid concrete pad along the side of the house, with conduit running clean up the exterior wall to tie into the electrical system. Everything is tucked in and organized - nothing sloppy about how this was done.

Inside, we tied in a Generac transfer switch right next to the existing panel. This is the piece that makes it all work automatically. The moment utility power drops, the transfer switch detects it and signals the generator to start. The whole process takes seconds. Your lights stay on, your fridge keeps running, your furnace keeps heating. You might not even notice the power went out.

A 10kW unit is a solid choice for most homes. It's enough capacity to cover the essentials - and then some - without over-sizing the system. We size every install based on what the homeowner actually needs, not just what's biggest.

Getting this kind of system installed the right way matters. The wiring, the transfer switch, the gas connection, the pad placement - every piece has to be done correctly for it to be safe and reliable. That's what we focus on every time we do one of these installs.
